**Insights from over 84,000 comments (2011-2024) on "Ask HN: Who Is Hiring"

We extended Tamer Çomcuoğlu's initial analysis of Ask HN “Who is hiring” by examining data from 2011 to August 2024. Our goal was to uncover long-term trends and provide deeper insights into the job market dynamics within the Hacker News community.

Disclaimer: we are co-founders of EXXA and performed this case study to both provide valuable insights into the tech job market and demonstrate the value of our solution. 🚀 Key findings

1️⃣ Job postings are declining

After peaking between 2018 and 2021, job postings on HackerNews have decreased by ~54%, averaging around 320 jobs posted per month in 2024.

2️⃣ Shift to remote and hybrid work

In 2024, 79% of job offerings are either remote or hybrid, underscoring a lasting shift in work arrangements since COVID-19. However, the share of remote positions has decreased since 2022 in favor of hybrid role.

3️⃣ Decrease in visa sponsorship

Job offerings that include visa sponsorship declined from around 10% before 2020 to about 6% since 2021.

4️⃣ Salary transparence is on the rise

Companies have never been more open about salary ranges (see more here).

5️⃣ Selected technology battles
